Bombing is always not the preferred method for exterminating fleas. That is because the process harms more than just the fleas. It could be unsafe for our pets, kids or anyone else as well. It involves the induction of toxic chemicals into our homes that could be dangerous. Thankfully, there are ways we can avoid bombing. We can try out any other smoking method or even non-smoking ones. In fact, we can go the whole length and avoid all kinds of chemicals.
How Long Do Fleas Live For?
Fleas can live for a period as long as 6 months. However, the average flea does not survive for more than 2 to 3 weeks at the most.
But fleas have life-cycle that consists of three stages. The adults lay the eggs. A female adult can lay up to 50 fleas in a day. Usually, it is these eggs that cannot stick to the fur and falls down into your carpet or bedding and cause a massive flea infestation.
The eggs hatch to form the larvae. It is at this stage that the pupae can turn into a host for tapeworms by consuming them.
Finally, the adult form out of the pupae. The adult flea is persistent and hard to kill. Even if you do manage to kill then, the new eggs hatch to form new ones.
How Do You Kill Fleas in Your Home?
It is not enough to cleanse your pet of the fleas in their fur. Flea eggs often fall off the pet’s body and find a home on carpets or other bedding and furniture.
If it is expendable, it is better to throw it away. You can buy your dog a new set of bedding.
However, if not, you need to wash it over and over again to ensure that even the eggs are dead.
Steaming is a good way to get rid of fleas from the root. If not, make sure that you at least use a vacuum cleaner. You can’t get rid of fleas completely without a vacuum cleaner.
You can also spray an insecticide all over your house.
For the outside, just make sure that the grass and trees are neatly trimmed and cleared of any debris. For the removal of the infestation, you may have to apply some insecticide.
How Does a Flea Bomb Work?
Flea Bombs are useful for getting rid of the heavy infestation in a short period of time. The technology consists of a large amount of pesticide contained under pressure in a small container which when triggered bursts.
It distributes the pesticide on a large surface. Even the air is filled with droplets of pesticide. So, be careful not to breathe in the vicinity.
The effects can be applied for about 30 weeks from the first application. It even kills all three stages of fleas, that includes, eggs, pupae, and adult fleas.
How Do You Get Rid of Fleas in Your Home?
Even if you opt-out of the more complicated methods, there are easier ways to get rid of fleas at home.
You can use a dish full of dishwasher liquid with a candlelit by the sight. Fleas are drawn to the light and eventually, jump into the viscous liquid whereupon they die.
If you choose to vacuum your house to kill the fleas, you should use the spray all over. You can make this by mixing vinegar, water, and lemon juice. This needs to sprayed in every possible area where fleas might hide.
Or, as the easiest method, you can salt your carpets. The fleas will not be able to survive in the saline atmosphere.
Fleas not only suck blood, they actually spread diseases. They target both humans and animals. So, if you have pets in your house, make it a point to check for an infestation regularly.
